Rules

The IFPA rules serve as a baseline for our tournament.

If all affected players reach an informed and unanimous agreement regarding a disputed matter, they may also deviate from these rules in less significant situations.

Based on our previus experiences, we’d like to highlight a few things.

While one of our primary goals is for everyone to have a good time at our event, but for the sake of a smooth execution, and a fair playing space, we must enforce our rules to the last letter. Even if you feel like it’s a miniscule thing, still.

Under no circumstances is it an acceptable excuse, that the auxiliary staff, someone’s acquaintance, or even the local wizard said that you can deviate from one of our event’s rules. Only the organizers’ introduced at the beginning of the competition and the TDs’ decisions should be considered.

If you feel like someone is breaking these rules, and we’re not taking steps, please, do speak up, let us know, and we’ll take immediate action if it’s valid.

Excessive alcohol consumption, drunken behaviour are grounds for immediate disqualification, and ejection from the venue. We’re happy if somone has a good time at our event, but only until it does not come at the expense of the other competitors.

There is no free play at our tournament machines, and you cannot bring food or beverages inside to the playing area.

If someone shares his view in a calm, reasoned manner, citing actually existing rules, or provides additional context to a disputed matter, that is always welcome, but please keep in mind, that our TDs will have final say, and the rulings are final. Besides us, there will be multiple IFPA country directors present at our events, if you need help regarding the interpretation of the rules in question.

If someone does not show up in front of the designated machine at the beginning of a round for 5 minutes, or for 1 minute once it’s their turn mid game, you should notify a tournament director, but never take action yourself, unless you’re told to do so. In this case we’ll eject the player in question from the round, which will continue with a reduced player count (ie: 7-5-3-1 -> 7-4-1 scoring. If the player asked for a delay in advance from their group, or the tournament organizers, it’s considered to be an exception, but the reason for the hold-up must be within the bounds of common sense (ie. toilet break).

Smaller offenses might be rewarded with a verbal warning, larger, or repeated ones will result in a yellow, followed by a red card, at the TDs’ discretion. The latter two carries over through our entire tournament. In severe, extreme cases, the organizers can eject the player from the tournament, immediately disqualifying them.

It is in everyone’s interest that these should not be needed at all, and fortunately, so far we did not have to use them. We do not have many rules or requirements, we simply ask everyone to respect the few that we do have.
